Health Properties

  • Most of the apple’s nutrients are located just under the skin (peel).

  • Apples contain calcium.

  • Good source of potassium.

  • Pectin is the gritty substance in pears and apples, that is also a type of soluble- fiber which may improve digestion.

  • Apples contain beta carotene, which can be converted to Vitamin A in our bodies.

  • Apple peels, especially the red varieties, contain natural antioxidants.

  • “Quercetin” and “ellagic acid”  are chemicals  found in raw apples that help to combat free radicals which cause oxidation, and can be harmful to our health.

 

* Health Tip:

Apples lose much of their nutritional value when cooked.

* Attention:

 Apple seeds contain the toxic prussic acid and should not be eaten.
